1. Configuring your site in Cute FTP

Open cuteftp then click the first icon on the menu bar called "site manager"
This is where you create, modify and delete all your sites.
To create a new folder right click on "General FTP sites" and from the menu.
Click on "New folder", enter the name of the new folder and hit return.
To create a new site to put into that new folder, click on the folder you have
just created and then click on the "New" button at the bottom of the dialog box.
Name the site whatever you like. This is for your reference only and need not
follow any required format.
Now enter the host name or IP address. If your site DNS has fully
propagated, you may enter ftp.yoursite.com where yoursite.com is replaced
with your actual domain name.
If DNS has yet to propagate, enter the ip address provided to you.
Please note that your ftp username is the same as your control panel username.
When you are finished click the exit button.
Modifying the new site.
If the site has moved from another server you will need to
modify the settings for FTP to work on your new server.
To do this click on the site manager button again to open the
Site settings dialog box,
Click on "My Sites" and then click on your newly created site from
above. This will open the FTP settings pertaining to this site.
Again enter the relevant details on the right hand side that pertain
to your new server.
Deleting a site
Again click on the site manager button.
Click on My Sites then click on your site to highlight it.
Right click on it and select delete.
Click on the exit button when you are finished.
2. Managing file in cute ftp

First off connect to your web server.
Click on the manage sites button, select your site and click connect.
Locate the directory which contains your site files.
Since the control panel you use is HSphere click on the directory named after your domain.
To open a directory double-click it.
Changing directories
Locate the directory in your local files that you wish to manage.
Lets see how to move up one directory.
Click on the button with the icon of a up pointing arrow on a file folder.
You should have your local & remote sites set up.
File sorting preferences
You may control the order in which your files are sorted.
Alphabetically, forward or reverse... by clicking on the
Name row
Sorted by size by clicking on the Size row
Sorted by date by clicking on the Date row
etc...
File display preferences
You may modify the way in which your files are displayed.
By clicking on the Long directory listing or Short directory listing
buttons on the top menu bar.
Creating directories
To create a new directory, click on the make new directory
button on the top menu button bar.
Enter the name of the directory you wish to create and click ok.
Renaming directories
To rename a directory, highlight the directory, right-click it and choose Rename
from the menu, enter the new name for the directory.
Alternatively highlight the directory and click on the rename button in the toolbar.
Deleting Directories
To delete a directory, highlight the directory, right-click and select "Delete"
Alternatively simply highlight the directory and click the delete button from
the toolbar.
Setting file permissions
When installing scripts in your site you may be asked to set file permissions.
More often than not, it will be a file in your cgi-bin (not always, though).
On the server, locate your cgi-bin directory and select a file you would like
to set permissions for.
Right-click it and select CHMOD
This will open the "Change File attributes" dialog box.
You may either click on the check boxes manually, or simply enter the permissions in the text box.
You will see a confirmation of the change you just made.
3. Setting preferences in Cute FTP

Open Cute FTP
Open the settings dialog box by clicking on "Edit" then "Settings"
It is recommended that you leave many of the settings unchanged, as
they are optimally set by the manufacturer.
On the left hand side of the settings dialog box click on "Connection"
From here you can choose the default screen Cute FTP opens with.
To do this choose an option for the "Upon startup launch" menu.
If you prefer, you may change the number of time cuteFTP
retries to connect in the event it being unsuccessful the first time.
Click on the "+" icon beside "Connection" on the left.
Then click "Firewall" when attempting to connect to your site, if you receive an error
saying "Error opening data socket", put a check mark in the PASV
mode box and in the "Enable firewall access" box
If that still doesn't work, uncheck the "Enable firewall access" and try again.
Next click on "Display" on the left hand side.
This settings on this screen are pretty self-explanatory.
One setting in particular that you may want to set based on your preference is "Double-click Action".
the rest of the settings is display are purely a matter of what look,
feel and sound you prefer.
For the last options "Prompt" its recommended that you do not uncheck
any of these. Many of them will prompt you double-clicking something that may be irreversible.
When you have finished click ok to save your preferences.
4. Transferring files in Cute FTP

First to ensure that the file transfer mode is set
correctly click on "Edit" -> "Settings", this will
open the Settings dialog box.
Expand the "Connection" meny by clicking on the " + "
From this menu click on "ASCII/Binary" to open
the transfer options menu.
When transferring files, it is important to ensure
its done in the proper transfer mode.
For example, files in .jpg, .gif, exe and zip format
should be transferred in binary mode.
files in html, php, cgi and pl format should always be
transferred in ASCII mode.
fortunately, Cute FTP is able to automatically detect file
type and transfers a file accordingly.
the list of file extensions that Cute FTP will upload in ASCII
mode are listed in the "Text files Extensions" section. If you wish
to add any extra file extensions just click the add button, type the
name of the extension in the top text field and click ok.
Transferring files.
Connect to the remote server by click on the file manager button.
Select which site you would like to transfer files to and from.
Click connect.
Open the directory which contains your sites files on your local
machine. Do the same on the remote machine.
Multiple files may be uploaded at one time by highlighting the
first file while holding down the ctrl key on your keyboard,
highlight the last file, this action then highlights all
the files in between.
From the top menu, click transfer then upload.
Or you may simply click on the upload button, just under transfer.
You will be prompted if you are uploading any files that already
exist on the server.
This is a simlar procedure to downloading files from the server.
CuteFTP allows you to schedule an pload for a specific time. For
example you may want to update a time-sensitive page at a
particular time.
Highlight the file you wish to add the scheduled upload.
Click on Transfer then Queue -> Add to Queue
Now you need to save the Queue, click on transfer -> Queue -> Save Queue
To set the schedule click Transfer -> Schedule transfers -> Tick enable schedules
Add queue file -> Select queue file -> Open -> Set the time and date for the upload
You may also specify if this is a one-time upload or to be repeated. If so, you may
set the frequency.
You are now able to transfer files in cute ftp.
