1. What is the stalled list?
Once your domain name has been accepted by the IEDR they test the nameservers that you have nominated for your domain name to see if they are correctly configured. Pending this test being successful the domain is placed on the Stalled List. You can find the stalled list here For more information see the IEDR website. We specify our nameservers for all .ie domain applications we process to avoid this problem. Once the domain has been accepted you can change the nameservers to those of your own choosing.
2. Why is my domain on the stalled list?
When the IEDR accepts the transfer or registration of a domain name, it then checks the zone files at 5pm of that day. If they are correctly configured, the domain becomes live. If the zone files are not correctly configured, the domain moves onto the stalled list. The IEDR then check to see if the zone files have been configured each day for a period of two weeks.
If you are using our nameservers(if you are using us for the hosting of your website) we will take care of getting your domain off the stalled list. If you are not using our nameservers please see the other items in this FAQ concerning this.
3. What do I do if my domain is on the stalled list?
If you are using the nameservers of our company(Register.ie/Host.ie) we will take care of getting your domain off the stalled list. If you are not using our nameservers please see the other items in this FAQ concerning this.
4. How long will my domain be on the stalled list?
If you are using the nameservers of our company(Register.ie/Host.ie) it is usually on the stalled list for a maximum of 24 hours. If you are using the nameservers of another company how long your domain is stalled is up to them.
5. I've changed my nameservers to those of my own hosting company, why is my domain still on the stalled list?
The IEDR test the nameservers supplied by yourself every evening to find out if they are configured for the domain or not. If your domain is on the stalled list this is because the zone files are not correctly configured and the test fails and the IEDR do not change the WHOIS to the new nameservers because the new nameservers do not have the requisite zone files for the domain.
Please contact your hosting company to ensure that they set up the zone file details for this domain as quickly as possible. Please note that the IEDR will shortly stop testing the zones and remove your domain from testing on the stalled list. For further information please ring the Irish Domain Registry directly and ask to speak to the hostmaster.
6. I asked Register.ie to change the nameservers for my domain but the Whois still shows Register.ie's nameservers?
We carryout all modification requests of nameservers within 24 hours of receipt (assuming the correct modification letter is received). The IEDR test the nameservers supplied by yourself every evening to find out if they are configured for the domain or not. If your domain is on the stalled list the zone files are not correctly configured and the test fails.
The IEDR will not change the WHOIS to reflect the details of the new nameservers until they have successfully tested the new nameservers. Please contact the Irish Domain directly for further information.
7. What happens if I am using my own nameservers and the domain fails to move off the Stalled list within the specified period.
At the end of 14 days on the stalled list the IEDR will stop testing your nominated nameservers for the correct configuration. Once you have ensured that the problem which caused the domain to fail to move off the stalled list in the first place has been remedied(usually an error in the setting up of the zone files by your hosting company) please contact us and we will re-enter it with the IEDR. There is a €10 charge for this service.
8. I received notification that my domain had been accepted but it was never listed on the Stalled List and therefore is not working?
This happens occasionally. To correct this please contact the Irish Domain Registry directly and ask them to put your domain on the stalled list.
9. My domain is on the stalled list but I never received notification from Register.ie that it had been accepted.
It may have been that the IEDR accepted the domain and put it on the stalled list without informing Register.ie. If you see your domain on the stalled list please inform us and we will investigate the matter.
10. My domain has been accepted by the IEDR and put on the stalled list but it is still available when I check the Whois?
Please note that if you do a search for your domain name when your domain name is still on the stalled list it will appear to be available, please don't panic! This is a problem with the way the IEDR have configured the domain search system, your domain name is not available for others to register when it is on the stalled list.
