1. How will I be notified of when it is time to renew my domain?
Our system will notify you by an email to the billing email address 60 days, 30 days and 24 hours before the renewal date for your domain name. Failure to renew your domain name through Register.ie will result in it lapsing. Register.ie are not responsible for domains that have lapsed if payment is not received before the renewal date.
2. What happens when a domain expires?
Domains are immediately suspended if payment is not received by their due date. This means that all associated services will cease working until the name is renewed (if and when this happens). Further, modifications to the name (contact information or Registrar transfer) are not possible after a domain's expiry (until the domain is renewed). Domains are then fully deleted a short period after their suspension date.
3. I want to register a domain name that has expired according to the Whois output. Why can't I register this name?
When the Whois output states that a domain name has expired, this does not mean that the registration for that name has expired, it means that the registrant should have paid for renewal by that date. If they have not, they will be afforded 45 days to renew the domain name. If the domain is not renewed after 45 days, then it becomes available for re-registration by another party. Many registrars hold the domain for far longer than this in the hope that the client will renew it with them.
4. My domain expired, can I still renew it?
You can still renew it within the first 30 days after the expiration date.
5. Once an expired domain has been renewed, how long does it take for the services to begin working again?
Assuming that the domain DNS and hosts are still in place, the domain will begin working within 48 hours of its renewal. We put the domain back into the root immediately, the delay is caused by propagation out from the root.
6. If my domain is allowed to lapse can someone else register it?
When the Whois output states that a domain name has expired, this does not mean that the registration for that name has expired, it means that the registrant should have paid for renewal by that date. If they have not, they will be afforded 45 days to renew the domain name. If the domain is not renewed after 45 days, then it becomes available for re-registration by another party. Many registrars hold the domain for far linger than this in the hope that the client will renew it with them.
7. How much is it to renew my domain name?
