Here is a list of some of the common Outlook/Outlook Express error codes

Problems collecting mail Port 110 Pop:

1. This message means that the connection to the server is not being established.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your_account',
Server: 'your_POP3_server', Protocol:POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): NO,
Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e
  • Possible causes:

1. Antivirus email scanning may be disrupting the connection when it attempts to scan the email coming through. If this is occurring, make sure to disable the incoming and outgoing email scanning in your antivirus software.

2. Firewall software not configured correctly can block the email ports 110 and 25, causing connection failures. This is easy to determine, simply disable your firewall and see if the email downloads correctly.


2. This Message means that you have an anti-virus program installed that is holding up the process of receiving your mail.

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account:'pop3.tsthere.net', Server:      
'pop3.tsthere.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
  • Possible causes:

If you have already installed the SP1 for OE6, this problem may still occur when the following conditions are met. First, you have Norton Antivirus 2003 or 2002 installed. Second, you have "Scan incoming Email" and "Scan outgoing Email" turned on. Note that this may also be true when you use McAfee software products. To prevent this problem when you use NAV and Outlook or Outlook Express, follow the steps below to turn off e-mail scanning.

1 Quit Outlook or Outlook Express.

2 Start Norton AntiVirus

3 Click Options. If a menu appears when you click Options, click Norton AntiVirus. The Norton AntiVirus Options dialog box appears.

4 In the Internet section, click Email.

5 Click to clear the "Scan incoming Email" and "Scan outgoing Email" check box.

6 Click OK and close NAV.


3. This means that your computer is having trouble connecting to the mail server or it has been changed.

The host 'pop3.vic.eg.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server  
name correctly.
Account:pop3.vic.eg.com', Server pop3.test.antivirus, Protocol:POP3, Port:110, Secure(SSL):No,  
Socket Error: 11002, Error Number:0x800CCC0D
  • Solution:

The mail server name has been entered incorrectly. To change the name you need to click on TOOLS, ACCOUNTS then click on the tag titled Mail and choose the account 'pop3.vic.eg.com' on the right side of that little window click PROPERTIES. Then from the top of the next window choose the Servers tag and make sure that the Outgoing mail(SMTP) and Incoming mail(POP3) lines are correct.

4. message regarding termination of connection

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems,  
network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account. account name, Server: 'server name', Protocol:  
POP3, Server Response: '+OK', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): N0, 
Error Number: 0x800ccc0F
  • Has multiple causes and solutions:

Firewall software blocking email - Disable Firewall for test (will need to be reconfigured) Anti-Virus blocking email - Disable incoming or outgoing mail scanning Account not configured correctly - Check Settings Account is corrupted - Delete recreate email account Corrupt email - Delete suspect email

5. This Error message means that an email cannot be downloaded due to a known bug with Outlook/Express.

Message number ?? could not be retrieved. Account: pop3.eg Server: 'pop3.vic.eg.com'  
Protocol: POP3 Server Response: ‘Subject of email', Port: 110 Secure(SSL): No Server Error: 0x800CCC90   
Error Number: 0x800420CD
  • Solution:

Remove any suspect email from server (usually Spam)

6 Troubleshooting Outlook Express Error 0x800CCC0F

When you start Outlook Express or try to send an e-mail message, you may get the following error message:

- Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems,  
network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.resource24.net', Server:   
'relay.prodegy.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Solution:

This problem is often modem related. The first step is to; · check your Outlook Express settings, making sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are as in the email setup screenshots, and that your full user name and password are correct. (Tip. Watch out for commas in place of full points). · If your problem has still not been resolved uninstall and reinstall your Broadband modem. For information on how to do this please refer to the ADSL modem setup instructions or the installation cd that was provided with your modem

· If you're still having problems, it could be that Outlook Express is itself corrupt. This can be fixed by reinstalling Outlook Express.

Outlook Express can be reinstalled by downloading the Internet Explorer setup program from the Microsoft website

7 Outlook Express Error 0x800CCC90/91

- There was a problem logging onto your mail server.
-Your UserName was rejected. Account: 'mail.resource24.net', Server: 'pop3.norton.antivirus', Protocol:  
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90
- Error Number: 0x800CCC91

Solution:

his error message is caused by the fact that you have set an anti virus program, in this case Norton AntiVirus, to scan all emails automatically.

Changing the settings within Outlook Express will not solve the issue. You need to go into your Norton Antivirus Control Panel and change the settings there.

8 Troubleshooting Outlook Express Error 0x800CCC92

You may get the following error message:

- There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected.'pop.test.net',  
Server: 'pop.test.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user or password', Port: 110,  
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Solution:

Check your Outlook Express settings, make sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are correct, and that your full username and password are correct.

If you are still having problems, it could be that your password has somehow become corrupted. Try changing it in My Account


Problem sending mail port 25 SMTP:

1. getting operation timed out when trying to send an email

Sending reported error (0x8004210B): the operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message contact your server administrator or ISP

Try:

  • Disabling Anti-virus software on your PC as this can affect mail service
  • Change the SMTP port from 25 to 587 by clicking Tools, Accounts and highlight the email account in the Internet Accounts window. Click on Properties and then click on the Advanced tab. Change the outgoing SMTP port from 25 to 587
  • finally reboot your PC.


2. This Message means that you haven't got your e-mail address in the email address field. It is filled in only @vic.eg.com.

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Error Message', Account: 'pop3.vic.eg.com', Server:  
'smtp.vic.eg.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 5.7.1 Message cannot be accepted,           
content filter rejection Stop NoEmail@vic.eg', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, 
Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F
  • Solution:

In Outlook Express click Tools > Accounts > Double click pop3.vic.eg...> fill in your e-mail address eg. example@eg.com> click ok > Click Close, Delete the message out of your outbox, retype and resend.

3. This message means the attached file you are sending is virus infected.

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Virus Error', Account: 'pop3.vic.eg.com', Server:  
'smtp.vic.eg.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 5.7.1 Message cannot be accepted,          
anti-virus rejection', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, 
Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F
  • Solution:

Scan the file for viruses and resend

4. This Message Signifies that you need to receive mail before you can send mail.

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected  
e-mail address was 'user@vic.eg.com'. Subject , Account: 'pop3.vic.eg.com', Server:   
'smtp.vic.eg.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 <user@vic.eg.com>... we  
do not relay <user@vic.eg.com.au>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, 
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
  • Solution:

To correct this problem, make sure you recieve before you send. This can be done by clicking the down arrow next to the "Send/Receive" button in Outlook Express, clicking "Receive all" then sending the email using "Send All"

remove the checks from the boxes This server requires a secure connection for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3).

5. This Message Signifies that the user doesn't exist on our server.

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected  
e-mail address was 'johndoe@vic.eg.com'. Subject 'Error Message', Account:  
'pop3.vic.eg.com', Server: 'smtp.vic.eg.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550  
5.1.1 <unknownemail@vic.eg.com> User unknown; rejecting', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):No,Server Error:    
550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
  • Solution:

Check you are sure that you have the right address.

remove the checks from the boxes This server requires a secure connection for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3).

6. This Message Signifies that you tried to send more than 50 emails at one time.

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected  
e-mail address was 'user@vic.eg.com'. Subject '**TEST DELETE MESSAGE', Account: 
'pop3.vic.eg.com', Server: 'smtp.vic.eg.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '552 Too    
many recipients, max 50', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 552, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
  • Solution:

Send emails in batches less than fifty.


7. This Message means you have sent email to a domain that does not exist.

  • Solution:

Check you are sure that you have the right address

8. Some of the more common error messages received that would indicate a problem with port 25 blocking are:

  • Outlook Express:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'imap.test.edu', Server: '<SMTPSERVER>', Protocol:   
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
  • Outlook 2003/XP:
! Task 'imap.test.edu - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your  
outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator 
or  Internet service provider (ISP).
  • Eudora:
Bottom panel error:
<Dominant>, Contacting <SMTPSERVER>(IP), (TIMESTAMP) Could not connect to "<SMTPSERVER>" Cause: connection  
timed out (10060)

Solution: Change port 25 to port 587

9 Outlook Timeout error when using send/receive:

Error Number 0x800CCC19 is a timeout, which can be caused by many things.

10 Troubleshooting Outlook Express Error 0x800420CB

You may get the following error message:

Message Could Not Be Opened From Outbox Folder, Account: mail.testnet.com
MailAccount',Server:relay.testnet.com', Protocol:SMTP,Port:25,Secure(SSL):No, Error  
Number:0x800420CB 

Solution:

The usual cause of this problem is an Outbox.dbx file which has become corrupted. To fix it, · Click Tools · then Accounts · Click the Mail tab · Click a duplicate mail account, and then click Remove . Keep doing this until all duplicates have been removed. · Click Close

If you are still having problems with this error message. Try deleting the Outbox.dbx file, although please note this will permanently delete any messages still in the outbox. · Close Outlook Express. · Right-click the Start button on your PC's desktop · click Find or Search · Search for the Outbox.dbx file · Right-click the file, click Delete, and then click Yes · Start Outlook Express, and then try again
