To configure your Outlook Express (versions 5 & 6) client to send and receive your mail

Outlook Express - Configuring a new email account

1. From the 'Tools' menu, select 'Accounts'

2. From the 'Internet Accounts' screen, select 'Add', then select 'Mail...' from the drop-down menu.

3. In the 'Display name:' field, enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From" field of your outgoing messages, then click 'Next'.

4. In the 'E-mail address:' field, enter your full email address for your domain, in this example I'm using john.test@test.com

5. In the 'E-mail Server Names' screen, enter the following information:

   * My incoming mail server is a 'POP3' server.
   * Incoming mail (POP3,IMAP or HTTP) server: mail.test.com (in your case mail.yourdomain)
   * Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: send.xtra.co.mail.test.com (in your case mail.yourdomain)

  1. In the 'Internet Mail Logon' screen, enter the following information:

  • Account name: Enter your email address (mailbox).
  • Password: Enter your mailbox password.
  • Tick the box marked 'Remember password'


7. Click the 'Next' button.

8. Click on 'Finish'.

9. From the 'Internet Accounts' screen, select your email account then click on 'Properties'.

10. Select the 'Servers' tab.

If you require authentication you can do so by going to 'Outgoing Mail Server' and tick the box next to 'My server requires authentication'.

11. In the 'Advanced' tab, enter the following information:

In here you can change the SMTP & pop3 ports. For example in Europe some ISPs block port 25 and user port 587

If SSL connection is required it will require port '465' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP)' field. Incoming mail (POP3)' field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, make sure the port number is set to 995.

You can also set timeout limits and option leave a copy of mail on the mail server.
