No, we do not charge any transfer fees. We renew all domains transferred to us for 12 months from the date of transfer thus our standard annual fee applies to all domains transferred to us.
Do Register.ie charge a fee for transfers away from Register.ie
No, we do not charge any transfer fees.
What should I check before initiating a transfer?
Before starting the transfer process please enter your domain name at our whois facility and check the following;
1. Is the admin contact's email address one that you have access to? If not the transfer will fail.
2. When is the expiry date for the domain? If you are trying to start the transfer too close to the expiry date (less than two weeks before it) the transfer will fail as the current registrar will not allow the transfer.
3. Your nameserver details do not change during the transfer procedure so you do not need to worry about this.
What are the steps involved?
To transfer you domain name to us please follow the
steps below that will guide you through the process:
1) Go to www.register.ie and click on the Transfers tab at the top of the page.
2) Enter in the domain name(s) that you wish to transfer to us and click on the Submit button.
3) Ensure that your domain name is set to UNLOCKED by your current registrar. You will also need to get an AUTH code from them to complete the transfer.
4) You will need to confirm who the Admin contact is and then click on Continue
5) The cost of the transfer will appear and to continue you will need to scroll down the page and click on the button "Continue with current purchase".
6) Then if you are a new client, fill in the New client section and continue and if you are an existing client fill in the Existing client section to add the domain to your account.
7) Once you have logged in you will need to verify the contact information and complete the payment.
8) An email will be sent to the current admin contact asking them if they wish to accept the transfer. We cannot change where this email is sent to, it has to go to the admin contact currently listed by the registrar. The admin contact will also have to put the Auth code into this email.
9)
Once this is done it can take 2 - 5 days for it to be processed by the registry and then the transfer will complete.

Why might the transfer fail
Reasons why domain transfers may fail include:
1. The domain was registered less than 60 days previously.
2. A dispute is pending.
3. The company the domain is currently registered with rejects the transfer.
4. The domain is too close to its renewal date or has past its renewal date.
5. The authorisation request sent to the admin contact email address was not replied to within the set period of 7 days.
Do I get a refund if the transfer fails
Register.ie has to pay a transfer charge regardless of the outcome therefore unfortunately our fee remains the same whether or not the transfer request is successful. However you can re-enter the transfer request an unlimited number of times free of charge.
When is the best time to initiate a transfer
Immediately on transfer your domain is automatically renewed for 12 months by Register.ie thus incurring the standard registration charge therefore you may wish to wait until your existing domain is due for renewal before transferring.
Thus taking an example of a domain name registered on 01/01/2002
Domain name registered on 01/01/2002
It can't be transferred until 60 days after its registration date thus it would become eligible for transfer on 01/03/2002
Optimum transfer period Optimum transfer period
A transfer should not be attempted with less than 30 days to go to the renewal date thus it becomes ineligible for transfer after 01/12/02
It's renewal date is 01/01/2003
